Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
This is probably my all time favorite (and I'm sure I've posted it before)
and I tend to get a lot of heat around here (bible belt USA) for quoting that last bolded part.
"Territories"
I see the Middle Kingdom between Heaven and Earth
Like the Chinese call the country of their birth
We all figure that our homes are set above
Other people than the ones we know and love
In every place with a name
They play the same territorial game
Hiding behind the lines
Sending up warning signs
The whole wide world
An endless universe
Yet we keep looking through
The eyeglass in reverse
Don't feed the people
But we feed the machines
Can't really feel
What international means
In different circles, we keep holding our ground
In different circles, we keep spinning round and round
We see so many tribes overrun and undermined
While their invaders dream of lands they've left behind
Better people...better food...and better beer...
Why move around the world when Eden was so near?
The bosses get talking so tough
And if that wasn't evil enough
We get the drunken and passionate pride
Of the citizens along for the ride
They shoot without shame
In the name of a piece of dirt
For a change of accent
Or the color of your shirt
Better the pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
Than the pride that divides
When a colorful rag is unfurled
and I tend to get a lot of heat around here (bible belt USA) for quoting that last bolded part.

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Another one of my favorites (from the same album)
"Marathon"
It's not how fast you can go
The force goes into the flow
If you pick up the beat
You can forget about the heat
More than just survival
More than just a flash
More than just a dotted line
More than just a dash
It's a test of ultimate will
The heartbreak climb uphill
Got to pick up the pace
If you want to stay in the race
More than just blind ambition
More than just simple greed
More than just a finish line
Must feed this burning need
In the long run...
[Chorus:]
From first to last
The peak is never passed
Something always fires the light that gets in your eyes
One moment's high, and glory rolls on by
Like a streak of lightning
That flashes and fades in the summer sky
Your meters may overload
You can rest at the side of the road
You can miss a stride
But nobody gets a free ride
More than high performance
More than just a spark
More than just the bottom line
Or a lucky shot in the dark
In the long run...
[Chorus]
You can do a lot in a lifetime
If you don't burn out too fast
You can make the most of the distance
First you need endurance
First you've got to last...
[Chorus]
The Chorus is so simple yet so profound.

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
this one is on my Iphone, I listen to it almost every night
"Turn The Page"
Nothing can survive in a vacuum
No one can exists all alone
We pretend things only happen to strangers
We've all got problems of our own
It's enough to learn to share our pleasures
We can't soothe pain with sympathy
All that we can do is be reminded
We shake our heads at the tragedy
Every day we're standing in a time capsule
Racing down a river from the past
Every day we're standing in a wind tunnel
Facing down the future coming fast
Looking at the long range forecast
Catching all the names in the news
Checking out the state of the nation
Learning the environmental blues
Truth is after all a moving target
Hairs to split, and pieces that don't fit
How can anybody be enlightened?
Truth is after all so poorly lit
It's just the age
It's just a stage
We disengage
We turn the page
Every day we're standing in a time capsule
(It's just a stage)
We disengage, we turn the page
Racing down the river running fast
Every day we're standing in a wind tunnel
(It's just a stage)
We disengage, we turn the page
Facing down the future coming fast
I'll stop now, for the moment

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
All day
Staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall
All night
Hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something
Hold on
I'm feeling like I'm headed for a
Breakdown
I don't know why
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know, right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know, right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Me
Talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
I know
I know they've all been talking 'bout me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong
With me
Out of all the hours thinking
Somehow
I've lost my mind
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know, right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
I been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they'll come to get me
Yeah, they're taking me away
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know, right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy I'm just a little impaired
I know, right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Hey, how I used to be
How I used to be, yeah
Well I'm just a little unwell
How I used to be
How I used to be

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Sometimes you come across one of those songs that speaks to you . . . ohh . . . too . . . perfectly. To me, this is one of those songs.
This song describes how I currently feel about my relationship between me and the world in general all too perfectly.
Please give me a second grace
Please give me a second face
I've fallen far down
The first time around
Now I just sit on the ground in your way
Now if it's time to recompense for what's done
Come, come sit down on the fence in the sun
And the clouds will roll by
And we'll never deny
It's really too hard for to fly.
Please tell me your second name
Please play me your second game
I've fallen so far
For the people you are
I just need your star for a day.
So come, come ride in my my street-car by the bay
For now I must know how fine you are in your way
And the sea sure as I
But she won't need to cry
For it's really too hard for to fly.

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Lyrics to Wizard Flurry Home :
dance, dance, snow
flur, flurry home
and dance, dance, snow
flur, flurry home
oh, wizard, weave gold
wave, wave, wave your title
wizard, pound your
mor, mor, mortar pestle
wizard, weave gold
wave, wave, wave your title
wizard, pound your
mor, mor, mortar pestle
oh, mortar pestle and
dance, dance in snow
and flur, flurry home
and winter, love holds
crown, crown, crown your brothers
winter, love snows
crown, crown, crown your mountains
winter, love holds
crown, crown, crown your mothers
winter, love snows
crown, crown, crown your mountains
and dance, dance in snow
and flur, flurry home
oh, flur, flurry home
and cocoon, bedspoon
i beg, i beg, i beg your pardon
cocoon, bedspoon
i beg, i beg, i beg your pardon
cocoon, monsoon
break, break, breaks the roof in
cocoon, monsoon
it break, break, breaks my heart in two
in two, two, in two
and it was two, oh, oh, five
and so new, new, so new
it was so new, new, new
new, new, so new
and brown, brown
oh, brown knees, white bees'
hum, hum, hum are missing
brown knees, white bees'
hum, hum, hum are missing
could you p-lease
turn, turn, turn to honey
could you p-lease
turn, turn, turn to morning
could you p-lease
turn, turn, turn tomorrow and
turn our dance into ice
oh, freeze our dance under lakes
and turn our dance into ice
oh, freeze our dance under lakes and
freeze our dance into snow-oh-angel pillows
freeze our dance into snow-oh-angel pillows
freezing our dance
into snow angel pillows
dance, dance, snow
flur, flurry home
and dance, dance, snow
flur, flurry home
oh, wizard, weave gold
wave, wave, wave your title

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
A Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum
(the first two most well known verses are in plain black, the lesser two in bold.)
We skipped the light fandango
turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
but the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
as the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, 'There is no reason
and the truth is plain to see.'
But I wandered through my playing cards
and would not let her be
one of sixteen vestal virgins
who were leaving for the coast
and although my eyes were open
they might have just as well've been closed
She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
and forced her to agree
saying, 'You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.'
But she smiled at me so sadly
that my anger straightway died
If music be the food of love
then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
and attacked the ocean bed
(the first two most well known verses are in plain black, the lesser two in bold.)

I really like that song.
I'm near the end of my fucking rope. And I think that my folks were right, that I AM basically unemployable at my age.

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Yep...I dig that song a lot also! Lets make it Number 1 then!
I once heard that John Lennon drove around in his car endlessly playing it also...he really dug it that much! So...you're in company with him!
[Psst...Please try not to worry about what others say...if they meant to do you good for whatever advice they have...it ain't happening anyway..is it? Let them go where they may...]
