Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Annie's Song by John Denver
You fill up my senses
like a night in the forest
like the mountains in springtime,
like a walk in the rain
like a storm in the desert,
like a sleepy blue ocean
you fill up my senses,
come fill me again.
Come let me love you,
let me give my life to you
let me drown in your laughter,
let me die in your arms
let me lay down beside you,
let me always be with you
come let me love you,
come love me again.
(instrumental)
You fill up my senses
like a night in the forest
like the mountains in springtime,
like a walk in the rain
like a storm in the desert,
like a sleepy blue ocean
you fill up my senses,
come fill me again
You fill up my senses
like a night in the forest
like the mountains in springtime,
like a walk in the rain
like a storm in the desert,
like a sleepy blue ocean
you fill up my senses,
come fill me again.
Come let me love you,
let me give my life to you
let me drown in your laughter,
let me die in your arms
let me lay down beside you,
let me always be with you
come let me love you,
come love me again.
(instrumental)
You fill up my senses
like a night in the forest
like the mountains in springtime,
like a walk in the rain
like a storm in the desert,
like a sleepy blue ocean
you fill up my senses,
come fill me again

come fill me again So as you see by your choice in music....their are many ways to fill up your senses.......as there are with people too.....connecting to the depths in you.......connects to the depths in others.....and the wonderful world we live in.....

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Very interesting. I had never cut out this portion of the song and seen it on its own. Beautiful.
yes we must connect to the depths of others. Some are deeper than others and that is ok. That is all they can do.
It is a wonderful beautiful world and I am grateful for every breath.

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Feel deeply? Is there another way? It would be kind of cool if we had some kind of a gauge where we could regulate how deeply we feel. I have not been able to find it yet.
Great video.
I have never considered myself an artist either. (Stick people are challenge!) But I guess my love for life is that of an artist. Inmany ways we are all artists, just a matter of what our passions are.

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
I´m a cork on the ocean
floating over the raging sea
how deep is the ocean?
I´m a leaf on a windy day
pretty soon I´ll be blown away
how long will the wind blow?
I´m a rock in a landslide
rolling over the mountainside
how deep is the valley?
I lost my way
these things are me until I die
"til I die" by Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) who is the most intensly clearly HSP I´ve ever experienced.

Mister Mister-Broken Wings
Songwriters: Lang, John Ross; Page, Richard James; George, Steve;
Baby, don't understand
Why we can't just hold on to each other's hands?
This time might be the last if fear unless
I make it all too clear I need you so, ohh
Take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in
Take these broken wings
Baby, I think tonight
We can take what was wrong and make it right
Baby, it's all I know that you're half of the flesh
And blood that makes me whole, I need you so.
So take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in
Yeah, yeah
Let us in
Let us in
Baby, it's all I know that you're half of the flesh
And blood that makes me whole
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
So take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
And when we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in
Take these broken wings
You got to learn to fly, learn to live and love so free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up for us and let us in
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ooh

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
I can't cover up my feelings
In the name of love
Or play it safe
For a while that was easy
And if living for myself
Is what I'm guilty of
Go on and sentence me
I'll still be free
It's my turn
To see what I can see
I hope you'll understand
This time's just for me
Because it's my turn
With no apologies
I've given up the truth
To those I've tried to please
But now it's my turn
If I don't have all the answers
At least I know
I'll take my share of chances
Ain't no use of holding on
When nothing stays the same
So I'll let it rain
'Cause the rain ain't gonna hurt me
And I'll let you go
'Though I know it won't be easy
It's my turn
With no more room for lies
For years I've seen my life
Through someone else's eyes
And now it's my turn
To try and find my way
And if I should get lost
At least I'll own today
It's my turn
Yes, it's my turn
And there ain't no use in holding on
When nothing stays the same
So I'll let it rain
'Cause the rain ain't gonna hurt me
And I'll let you go
'Though I know it won't be easy
It's my turn
To see what I can see
I hope you'll understand
This time's just for me
Because it's my turn
To turn and say goodbye
I sure would like to know
That you're still on my side
Because it's my turn
It's my turn
It's my turn
To start from number one
Trying to undo
Some damage that's been done
But now it's my turn
To reach and touch the sky
No one's gonna say
At least I didn't try
It's my turn
Yes, it's my turn
It's my turn
It's my turn
It's my turn
In the name of love
Or play it safe

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Where was I when the rockets came to life
And carried you away into the alligator sky
Even though, I'll never know what's up ahead
I'm never lettin' go, I'm never lettin' go
Uh uh, that's not a plane, that's me
I'm sittin' where I'm supposed to
Floatin' on the cloud, can't nobody come close to
The concrete and the sky switch places
So now my ceiling is painted with cosmic spaces
Firecracker to the moon, keep your eyes shut
Blastin' off like a rocket from the ground up
Heh, I used to catch a cab on the Monday
Now the taxi's sellin' lights on the runway, fly
Condo on the milky way
A house on the cloud and God's my landlord
And for my rent all I pay is my drive
Got that so If you need me you can find me in the alligator sky
Where was I when the rockets came to life
And carried you away into the alligator sky
Even though I'll never know what's up ahead
I'm never lettin' go, I'm never lettin' go
Roller coaster through the atmosphere
I'm drowning in this starry serenade
Where ecstasy becomes cavalier
My imagination's taking me away
Reverie whispered in my ear
I'm scared to death that I'll never be afraid
Roller coaster through the atmosphere
My imagination's taking me away
Uh, now I'mma dance like I never dance
Sing like I never sing, dream like I've never dreamed
Or try to, 'cause we've been lied to
That the sun is somethin' that we can't fly to
Well, I sit on my star and see street lights
Look up, ha, you'll miss me if you blink twice
Imagination is hot and if you got it you can meet me
When you see me in the alligator sky
Where was I when the rockets came to life
And carried you away into the alligator sky?
Even though I'll never know what's up ahead
I'm never lettin' go, I'm never lettin' go
Where was I when the rockets came to life

I'm never lettin' go, I'm never lettin' go
In the alligator sky...
And carried you away into the alligator sky
Even though, I'll never know what's up ahead

Rush - Ghost Of A Chance
I know that I have posted this before, but...it's especially profound for me today:
Like a million little doorways
All the choices we made
All the stages we passed through
All the roles we played
For so many different directions
Our separate paths might have turned
With every door that we opened
Every bridge that we burned
Somehow we find each other
Through all that masquerade
Somehow we found each other
Somehow we have stayed
In a state of grace
I don't believe in destiny
Or the guiding hand of fate
I don't believe in forever
Or love as a mystical state
I don't believe in the stars or the planets
Or angels watching from above
But I believe there's a ghost of a chance we can find someone to love
And make it last...
Like a million little crossroads
Through the backstreets of youth
Each time we turn a new corner
A tiny moment of truth
For so many different connections
Our separate paths might have made
With every door that we opened
Every game we played
Somehow we find each other
Through all that masquerade
Somehow we found each other
Somehow we have stayed
In a state of grace
I don't believe in destiny
Or the guiding hand of fate
I don't believe in forever
Or love as a mystical state
I don't believe in the stars or the planets
Or angels watching from above
But I believe there's a ghost of a chance we can find someone to love
And make it last...

Tori Amos - Winter
Snow can wait
I forgot my mittens
Wipe my nose
Get my new boots on
I get a little warm in my heart
When I think of winter
I put my hand in my father's glove
I run off
Where the drifts get deeper
Sleeping beauty trips me with a frown
I hear a voice
"Your must learn to stand up for yourself
Cause I can't always be around"
He says
When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change my dear
Boys get discovered as winter melts
Flowers competing for the sun
Years go by and I'm here still waiting Withering where some snowman was
Mirror mirror where's the crystal palace
But I only can see the myself
Skating around the truth who I am
But I know dad the ice is getting thin
When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change my dear
Hair is grey
And the fires are burning
So many dreams
On the shelf
You say I wanted you to be proud of me
I always wanted that myself
He says
When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses have gone ahead
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change
My dear

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Silent All These Years - Tori Amos
Excuse me but can I be you for a while
My dog won't bite if you sit real still
I got the anti-Christ in the kitchen yellin' at me again
Yeah I can hear that
Been saved again by the garbage truck
I got something to say you know
But nothing comes
Yes I know what you think of me
You never shut-up
Yeah I can hear that
But what if I'm a mermaid
In these jeans of his
With her name still on it
Hey but I don't care
Cause sometimes
I said sometimes
I hear my voice
And it's been here
Silent All These Years
So you found a girl
Who thinks really deep thougts
What's so amazing about really deep thoughts
Boy you best praya that I bleed real soon
How's that thought for you
My scream got lost in a paper cup
You think there's a heaven
Where some screams have gone
I got 25 bucks and a cracker
Do you think it's enough
To get us there
Cause what if I'm a mermaid
In these jeans of his
With her name still on it
Hey but I don't care
Cause sometimes
I said sometimes
I hear my voice
And it's been here
Silent All These...
Years go by
Will I still be waiting
For somebody else to understand
Years go by
If I'm stripped of my beauty
And the orange clouds
Raining in head
Years go by
Will I choke on my tears
Till finally there is nothing left
One more casualty
You know we're too easy Easy Easy
Well I love the way we communicate
Your eyes focus on my funny lip shape
Let's hear what you think of me now
But baby don't look up
The sky is falling
Your mother shows up in a nasty dress
It's your turn now to stand where I stand
Everybody lookin' at you here
Take hold of my hand
Yeah I can hear them
But what if I'm a mermaid
In these jeans of his

Hey but I don't care

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Alethia connected this song to me in chat today . . . at first I wondered why . . . but when I think about the lyrics, I can kind of see how . . .
I'm just going to bold the parts that seem the most relevant to me and my thoughts and that's all I'm going to say. At least for now, but I can't promise anything.
A Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see."
But I wandered through my playing cards
And they would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open wide
They might have just as well been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, "I'm here on a shore leave,"
Though we were miles at sea.
I pointed out this detail
And forced her to agree,
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took King Neptune for a ride."
And she smiled at me so sweetly
That my anger straightway died.
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
If music be the food of love
Then laughter is it's queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
I'm just going to bold the parts that seem the most relevant to me and my thoughts and that's all I'm going to say. At least for now, but I can't promise anything.
A Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
And the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Ah yes...'The Harum'! Wonderful timeless stuff...brings back many a psychedelic memory for me.
The church like haunting wail of the Hammond B-3...Robing Trowers guitar...mmm.
I was inspired to put on the 'Shine on Brightly' album while painting after reading this morn...when applying Prussian Blue to a shine on a leaf...when...the opening lines 'My Prussian blue electric clocks" syncronicity moment made me laugh about it all.
But then...it was the magic that the 60s invoked in me also perhaps....?
Love that album tho esp...'In Held Twas in I' one of those whole side epics that just isn't heard anymore...ah yes...shine on...

Revolution - Beatles
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world

Small Beginnings - Flash
In the morning when you start your day
Do you feel yourself quite lost
In a world of countless millions
And the tide of your life got tossed
Don't think you're getting nowhere
You know we all must start
From very small beginnings
Off to a better part
In the rush and hassle of your day
When all your world seems mad
Do you look at everything you see
And know that it's not so bad
Just take your time and work it out
You know what's in your mind
From very small beginnings
Off to a better time
Take your time and work it out, then maybe you'll see
You're not wasting your time running around
Just acting a play, just finding your way
You're making it pay, you're making today
In the darkness of a brand new day
When everything's hushed and still
You can pick up everything you see
And know that it's all worthwhile
The dark long night is faded
It starts from small beginnings
Moves to every part
Take your time and work it out, then maybe you'll see
You're not wasting your time running around
Just acting a play, just finding your way
You're making it pay, you're making today
In the morning when you start your day (4x)

Yes, that is indeed another great one BD . . . I can relate to so many of Lennon's songs, especially this one

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
Hmm yes...'no longer part of that merry go round'. That does seem a healthier place for all of us to strive for.
I'm reading about that this very morning ...how 'we' as a race have changed from how we were really supposed to be...what was the healthiest adaptation for us as a species...and how the 'genetics' of this change affect us all greatly in this so called 'modern world'. Food for thought.
I remember hearing one of the last interviews with John Lennon on a radio station back in the mid 80s and he was talking about how he often could just 'sit in a window like a cat and watch the world go by'. That song reminds me of that. Good choice!
Love Lennon! Really like the HBO mini series on Harrison also...if you saw that...brings up a a few tears of 'longing/missing' for what was once a special time.

Re: Song lyrics that profoundly affect you
This is a good 60s folk group that I just discovered today. This song is supposedly the first song singer and songwriter Tom Rapp ever wrote.
Another Time - Pearls Before Swine
Where have you been to?
Where did you go?
Did you follow the summer out
When the winter pushed its face in the snow?
Or have you come by again to die again?
Well, try again another time.
Did you follow
The crystal swan?
Did you see yourself
Deep inside the velvet pond?
Or have you come by again to die again?
Well, try again another time.
When you set to shape the world,
Was the shape the shape of you?
Or did you cast enchanting glances
Through the eye that all men use?
Or have you come by again to die again?
Well, try again another time.
Did you find that the universe
Doesn't care at all?
Did you find that if you don't care
This whole wrong world will fall?
Or have you come by again to die again?
Well, try again another time.
Did you ever capture
All those jewels in the sky?
Did you find that the world outside
Is all inside your mind?
Or have you come by again to die again?
Well, try again another time.

"BRAVADO"
Words by Neil Peart, Music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before it's begun
If the dream is won --
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost
When the dust has cleared
And victory denied
A summit too lofty
River a little too wide
If we keep our pride --
Though paradise is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost
And if the music stops
There's only the sound of the rain
All the hope and glory
All the sacrifice in vain
[And] if love remains
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

If we burn our wings

Me too! Definitely!
Neil Peart's words always mean a lot to me...and he's a serious motorcyclist too, which I can really identify with!
