Just updated OS X Snow Leopard to latest version, 10.6.6 a couple hours ago. It now has an App Store for the Mac computers, just as the iPhone has an App store.

Eventually, we'll be downloading not only music, but computer software, console games (as is already being done now), movies, television episodes, etc.

Without physical media, what is going to happen to state sales tax revenues? E.g., Aperture, photography software from Apple, Inc., is listed at $79.99 in the new App Store. Iirc, it used to sell for $199.99 on DVD. Again, curious as to how this will affect those states which have a sales tax.

It is having an increasing impact; that is why they are in part raising sales taxes not just in our state, but many others as well from what people have been telling me.

So, those who are not tech savy or comfortable with purchasing most things online will increasingly loose out. Of course if the vendor happens to live in the state you do, you still have to pay the sales tax after all.

In Florida they're trying to pass a law (or already have, idk) that requires net vendors to collect and submit sales tax from ppl they sell to in Florida. It seems to apply to tangible goods from what I can gather.
