How do colors affect you? Empty How do colors affect you?

Post by melodiccolor Sun Feb 08, 2009 10:53 pm

I read in the newspaper the other day that in a study done with over 900 college students, they found out that

red improves concentration, alertness and detail work while

blue encourages dreaming and creativity. It also promotes relaxing.

The article didn't state the shade of red or blue, nor the intensity.

So how do you react to colors?

I react to colors quite a bit and find that sometimes I drawn to certain colors more than others. Even when it comes to getting dressed for work, I do so with a sense of what feels right for that moment, and that includes colors. When I was pondering what to wear for my wedding, a necklace (heart-shaped with pink flowers) caught my eye (I have my necklaces hanging on my wall) and I knew that pink was the color to wear.

Color is like a part of the rest and when all is in harmony, it flows and I just know that all is well. But when color energy does not flow with the other components, then it is off. At least for me it is. I'm not sure how it is for others.

Interestingly, during a recent eye exam, I just discovered that I might be a tad color blind. confused So while I know how colors affect me, I don't know if they're the same colors that affect everyone else. How do I know that the blue I experience is the same blue (or even close) to what another person sees, and that what they see is the same as yet another, etc.? For all we know we each experience blue completely differently, but none of us will ever know it.

I find myself more drawn to the lower end of the spectrum.

Colors effect me very much. Sometimes I like soft muted colors for their calming effect on me. Other times I feel invigorated by bright colores. I'm not fond of blue at all except for navy blue. I'm inclined towards sublte shades of green, ambers, and browns.

I tend to favour purples, blues, and greens. Deep rich browns can be very centering. Other colors can be very overstimulating to me, especially red.

My reactions to colors is complicated. I find that very intense colors wipe me out, and monochromism--the current style of using mostly one color--to feel unbalanced. I also dislike lack of color, or everything of one shade, such as all pastels and white, or all dark tones. Things done all in shades of grey, black and white feel like death to me. So I usually choose to decorate and dress with 2 to 4 main colors from opposite sides of the spectrum and they will be of various shades as well. For example; navy, pale violet and rose, or maganeta, blue-green and pale shell-peach; true red, turquoise and pale yellow would be combinations that would appeal to me.

A LOT.

orange lifts me up
green and brown "centers" me, these are the colours in my room
green/ turquoise are the lamps in my room
red is activating, but can have a hectic - effect on me, too
blue is the lamp in my sleeping room, love it.
i just love ocean colours- blue and turquoise.
yellow is good for my attitude, uplifting, mostly i wear it in summer

and mostly i dress in black in last days, black hat and clothes, cause i think it looks elegant and fits to my philosophy classes.
(ok, sometimes i mix all the black with a turquoise hat or green scarf)
and my hair is orange/ red now :-)
which looks good in combination to black clothes and pale skin.

I'd say blue is my favorite color, I find bluish/purple shades soothing and calming. I've never cared much for orange or yellow, I usually find them too stimulating. Red has grown on me some...I like deep, rich shades of red. I also like nice shades of brown and beige. I like the color black more than most people I think...I think it's elegant.
Our house currently has no color on the walls, it is all painted white, and it drives me crazy, way too blah, lol.

An easy solution to that is artwork on the walls; it can be a simple as elegently framed favorite old calander pictures. My husband likes white walls too and he does the house painting. I have LOTS of artwork around, collected over 30 years.

I like the stimulating effect I get from yellows and reds.

Blue tends have a soothing effect on me. So I enjoy a good balance of both. Smile
