Killing you softly with their songs Empty Killing you softly with their songs

Lori Lieberman wrote "Killing Me Softly With His Song" in response to the song "Empty Chairs" by Don McLean. Lieberman says that she "felt he'd found my letters and read each one out loud" and that "he sang as if he knew me." Are there any songs that are so profound to you that it seems as if the artist knows you?

I've heard the story behind that song before. It is a really eerie feeling. I have not had any songs that felt like the writer knew me, but I've had many that moved me deep in my soul.

Here's one that describes how I feel about a few people to the letter:

Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning
You got a lotta nerve
To say you gota helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that's winning
You say I let you down
You know it's not like that
If you're so hurt
Why then don't you show it
You say you lost your faith
But that's not where it's at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it
I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You're in with
Do you take me for such a fool
To think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don't know to begin with
You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, "How are you?" "Good luck"
But you don't mean it
When you know as well as me
You'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once
And scream it
No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I'd rob them
And now I know you're dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don't you understand
It's not my problem
I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you
Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you

Bob Dylan!

That´s a good idea to listen to....
i will.
music

I like this other song too, Killing me softly.
Hmm i don´t know what to think about two girlfriends too lately.
I´m meeting so many people from past via internet at another board, even my ex-boyfriend. We write each other again, and it´s not an easy thing to do. It hurts me a lot, to see, that past is gone, and i just can´t get back to many things that happened once in my live. And i don´t want to! That´s so strange.
I think i´m working at my past now. Writing to many people there, to see what happens, to see who i am and where i stand today...what do i miss? what do i want? Have i changed? Have others changed? something like that.

Maybe it´s such a "thirty years old" thing, feels like a step into the future, and i seem to need to see my past lately, or where i left people of the past, and to understand, where i am and stand with my inner feelings and thoughts at this point of my live.
Just wanted to tell you, as i don´t write much here lately.

Now where is this Bob Dylan Cd...
It could fit how i feel today too.

She Belongs To Me

She's got everything she needs,
She's an artist, she don't look back.
She's got everything she needs,
She's an artist, she don't look back.
She can take the dark out of the nighttime
And paint the daytime black.
You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees.
You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees.
But you will wind up peeking through her keyhole
Down upon your knees.
She never stumbles,
She's got no place to fall.
She never stumbles,
She's got no place to fall.
She's nobody's child,
The Law can't touch her at all.
She wears an Egyptian ring
That sparkles before she speaks.
She wears an Egyptian ring
That sparkles before she speaks.
She's a hypnotist collector,
You are a walking antique.
Bow down to her on Sunday,
Salute her when her birthday comes.
Bow down to her on Sunday,
Salute her when her birthday comes.
For Halloween give her a trumpet
And for Christmas, buy her a drum. music

My boyfriend is a drummer. :-)

I've been thinking about some people in my past lately too GW. There were a lot of peculiar things about a person I was fairly close to, and when I put the pieces of what seemed odd together, I found out that I had been duped by this person in a horrible way, four years after it happened. (It's nobody you guys know.)

This one has always spoken to me

Joni Mitchell, Free man is Paris

The way I see it, he said
You just cant win it...
Everybodys in it for their own gain
You cant please em all
Theres always somebody calling you down
I do my best
And I do good business
Theres a lot of people asking for my time
Theyre trying to get ahead
Theyre trying to be a good friend of mine

I was a free man in paris
I felt unfettered and alive
There was nobody calling me up for favors
And no ones future to decide
You know Id go back there tomorrow
But for the work Ive taken on
Stoking the star maker machinery
Behind the popular song

I deal in dreamers
And telephone screamers
Lately I wonder what I do it for
If l had my way
Id just walk through those doors
And wander
Down the champs elysees
Going cafe to cabaret
Thinking how Ill feel when I find
That very good friend of mine

I was a free man in paris
I felt unfettered and alive
Nobody was calling me up for favors
No ones future to decide
You know Id go back there tomorrow
But for the work Ive taken on
Stoking the star maker machinery
Behind the popular song.

When I was a teenager, this song REALLY helped me along

Styx: I'm Okay

Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Eight, Skate, Seven on the Rotate!

If I could stand
Beside myself
Would I see me or maybe someone else
'Cause it's hard to please
Most everyone
When your spirit's got you on the run, on the run

They say do your best
But don't cause a fuss
Don't make waves be like the rest of us
But I can feel the tide is turning fast
'Cause deep inside I know that I can't last
Another day
Not another day!

'Cause I'm O.K.
I finally found the person I've been searching for
I'm alright
I'm feeling good about myself and that's for sure

'Cause I believed them when they said I must do things their way,
They tried to cast me in their mold
But I just had to say,
That I'm O.K.
I'm O.K. this way yes I'm O.K. Yes I'm OK!

I'm O.K.
I finally found the person I've been searching for (everybody sing now!)
I'm alright
I'm feeling good about myself and that's for sure (whoo!)

I'm O.K.
I finally found the person I've been searching for (yahoo!)
I'm alright
I'm feeling good about myself and that's for sure
I'm O.K.
I'm feeling good about myself and that's for sure
I'm alright
I'm O.K. this way yes I'm OK

Oh Nucky we seem to be stuck in past-trouble-thoughts. Killing you softly with their songs 454835
I found out that my girlfriend started a relationship behind my back with an ex-boyfriend once, which hurted me a lot too. They both didn´t tell me, didn´t dare, and i found out on my own. It shaked my trust in people immensly.
But i learned as well, how much courage i have and that i am my best friend.
I can have a hard time of trusting people though.
My ex-boyfriend (the one i have contact with again) has married in the meantime, and has a little daughter. We kind of broke off long ago, hurted me a lot.
I do love my boyfriend, he´s the one now, and it makes things not easier at all.
It feels as i would say goodbye to my past, and its sentimental and foolish.

Does looking at the past make any sense at all? I don´t know.

Leonard Cohen: Hey that's no way to say goodbye

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you,
but now it's come to distances and both of us must try,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

I'm not looking for another as I wander in my time,
walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme
you know my love goes with you as your love stays with me,
it's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea,
but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you,
but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

Hugs to you! :-)
Bob Dylon was a good decision today.

And Styx too.
Hugs to you too Mo!
Hugs to everyone!

Mo, that song: Styx: I'm Okay could very easily be an hsp antham song; it's perfect for that. No wonder it resonated so deeply when you were a teenager.

Melo and Nucky, it does seem that all of us need to revisit the past from time to time; to put old ghosts and unfinished emotions to rest. Those what if's and hurts. I have a bunch of them too; it's just a part of living and there's nothing wrong with it.

Lots of songs have spoken to me, and some of them I use from time to time for the feelings they evoke. One of the most enduring of these is Sad Lisa, by Cat Stevens. Yeah - it's rather dark - it's part of my depression music I suppose - but the truth of it is I'm all roles in the song (or not, as the case may be) - and it rings really loudly with the ache in my heart.

She hangs her head and cries on my shirt.
She must be hurt very badly.
Tell me whats making you sadly?
Open your door, dont hide in the dark.
Youre lost in the dark, you can trust me.
cause you know thats how it must be.

Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.

Her eyes like windows, tricklin rain
Upon her pain getting deeper.
Though my love wants to relieve her.
She walks alone from wall to wall.
Lost in a hall, she cant hear me.
Though I know she likes to be near me.

Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.

She sits in a corner by the door.
There must be more I can tell her.
If she really wants me to help her.
Ill do what I can to show her the way.
And maybe one day I will free her.
Though I know no one can see her.

Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.

Right where it belongs - Nine Inch Nails

See the animal in his cage that you built,
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye,
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built,
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart,
And it's all... right where it belongs

What if everything around you,
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself... find yourself afraid to see?

What if all the world's inside of your head?
Just creations of your own
Your devils and your gods all the living and the dead
And you're really all alone
You can live in this illusion,
You can choose to believe.
You keep looking but you can't find the woods,
While you're hiding in the trees

What if everything around you,
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is that all you want to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself... find yourself afraid to see?

No God no thought I don't care
Everyone of you could be the same
Everyone of you can't play this game
Gotta a new life, gotta a plight yeah
And it's going nowhere

And it's goin' nowhere

Every one of you will play this game
Gotta a new fun, gotta a new crime yeah
And it's goin' nowhere

I will Remember You
Sarah Mclachlan

I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by,
Weep not for the memories
Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad.
How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me
I wanna be the one
I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard
But I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so afraid to love you
But more afraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness
Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light
And I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories

Whenever I hear this song, I am reminded of the joy and sadness my late husband and I experienced together and the wondrous gift of love and light he gave me...
