3 techniques to use when overstimulated
We have a Facebook page and every now and then people who have their own businesses helping and working with HSP post some good information. The following post is one of these, posted here with the author's permission.
Shadowlight Wellness
1. Deep, belly breathing:
-Inhale through your nose for the count of 5, and let your belly round and expand like a balloon.
-Without pausing, exhale through your nose for another count of 5.
-Repeat as many times as needed.
2. Change your environment:
-Even if you can only stay there for 5min, physically move yourself to a different location.
-Ideally, pick somewhere quiet, or outside.
-It’s possible to take on energy from our physical environments (not just people), so give yourself a break from the energy you were immersed in.
3. Shake your body:
-It may feel silly at first, but shaking the body can help ease an overstimulated nervous system and calm your body back down.
-Start by wiggling your fingers and toes, then shake your head and shoulders, your limbs, etc. until you feel your energy moving throughout your body.
-Afterwards, pause and breathe steadily, and take notice of how you feel.
(Tip: Putting on your favorite song can help set the tone for moving your body, if you feel resistance to begin with!)
