Re: Favorite Quotes
Her dream began with winter darkness. Out of this darkness came a great hand, fisted. It was a man’s hand, powerful and hollowed…The fist opened and in the long plain of the palm lay three small pieces of coal. Slowly the hand closed, causing within the fist a tremendous pressure. The pressure began to generate a white heat and still it increased. There was a sense of weighing, crushing time. She seemed to feel the suffering of the coal with her own body, almost beyond the point of being borne. At last she cried out to the hand, ‘Stop it! Will you never end it! Even a stone cannot bear to this limit …even a stone..."
“After what seemed too long a time for anything molecular to endure, the torments in the fist relaxed. The fist turned slowly and very slowly opened. Diamonds, three of them. Three clear and brilliant diamonds, shot with light, lay in the good palm.
A deep voice called to her, ‘Deborah!’ and then, gently, ‘Deborah, this will be you."
-from I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

Re: Favorite Quotes
Here are a couple of quotes that I ran across this morning. The first is from my MSN quote of the day site:
"Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue to exist, a wonderful living side by side can grow up, if they succeed in loving the distance between them."
Rainer Maria Rilke
And the second is from Elaine Aron's monthly posting. It is applicable to the times:
Instead of paying attention to the Dow, how about the Tao?
"Fame or one’s own self, which matters to one most?
One’s own self or things bought, which should count most…
He who has hoarded most will suffer the heaviest losses.
Be content with what you have and are,
and no one can despoil you.
Who stops in time nothing can harm.
He is forever safe and secure."
From Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching

You say nothing's right but natural things, ah you fool
Poison oak is a natural plant, why don't you put some in your food . . .
Preservatives might be preserving you
I think that's something you might have missed

I believe in the fundamental truth of all great religions of the world. I believe that they are all God-given and I believe that they were necessary for the people to whom these religions were revealed. And I believe that if only we could all of us read the scriptures of the different faiths from the standpoints of the followers of these faiths, we should find that they were at bottom all one and were all helpful to one another. - MK Gandhi

Compassion and non-violence help us to see the enemy's point of view, to hear his questions, to know his assessment of ourselves. For from his view we may indeed see the basic weaknesses of our own condition, and if we are mature, we may learn and grow and profit from the wisdom of the brothers who are called the opposition. - Martin Luther King Jr

We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men; and among those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.

Re: Favorite Quotes
And a man said, Speak to us of Self-Knowledge.
And he answered, saying:
Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights.
But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart's knowledge.
You would know in words that
which you have always known in thought.
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.
And it is well you should.
The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs
rise and run murmuring to the sea;
And the treasure of your infinite depths
would be revealed to your eyes.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge
with staff or sounding line.
For self is a sea boundless and measureless.
Say not, "I have found the truth"
but rather, "I have found a truth."
Say not, "I have found the path of the soul."
Say rather, "I have met the soul walking upon my path."
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.

How very true!
In the church that I attended as a youth, 'guilt' was looked on as 'being under conviction from God'.
Now...why would an omnipotent being need to do that? Huh?
Fear and unworthiness are sadly human traits that we need to learn how to rise above, in this life.
Thanks....sorry...please go on with quotes ya'll! No comments needed on my little 'aside'!

Just stumbled across this and, well, it just fits so well that I had to share.
The term landscape, as it has entered the English language, is misleading...[It] assumes the viewer is somehow outside or separate from the territory he or she surveys. Viewers are as much a part of the landscape as the boulders they stand on. There is no high mesa edge or mountain peak where one can stand and not immediately be part of all that surrounds.
~ Leslie Marmon Silko

I like having weird folks to be weird with.
Here's another quote:
"Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?" --Mary Manin Morrissey

The ability to see yourself as a temporary expression of intention and to see yourself in all of humanity is a characteristic of the holy relationship. It's the ability to celebrate and honor in all others, the place where we're all one. ...establish a holy relationship with your Source, the world community, your neighbors, acquaintances, family, the animal kingdom, our planet, and yourself. - Dr. Wayne W. Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, how ever measured or far away. ~Henry David Thoreau
