South Dakota bill proposes to make gun ownership mandatory

"Do I or the other cosponsors believe that the State of South Dakota can require citizens to buy firearms? Of course not." Explained State Rep. Hal Wick, one of the bill's five sponsors. "But at the same time, we do not believe the federal government can order every citizen to buy health insurance."
So the whole point of this was to make an argument by equating guns with health care insurance. How moronic.

They are trying to get people to see that the act of the government creating legislation that forces every citizen to purchase anything is basically unconstitutional. They could have chosen anything, but picked firearms because they knew it would get people to pay attention and react. A little over the top, and I think it has kind of backfired since alot of people are missing that actual point.
