It is inspiring that she did find her way to speak and connect with the world. It gives so much hope to others as well.

I am fascinated by stories such as these! Wherein a person deemed 'handicapped' has such a large gifted world inside waiting to be expressed. Then, magically, a door appears!
I am currently reading a fictionalized novel from the viewpoint of a strongwilled mute boy who communicates better with his dogs than he ever will with humans. An 'analogy' perhaps...but I marvel at how he notices life around him; how many others less handicapped really do very little with their senses...or what 'gifts' have been given to them.

It is very inspiring. As some of you know I have a son with Aspergers, so I can relate to some of the things in this story. However my son's situation is nowhere near as serious as Carly's.
I was also moved by her parents dedication and never giving up on her. It would have been so easy for them to just put her in an institution and put aside the responsibility. It could not have been easy for them.
