Another great article by Denmark Guy:Self-Awareness: Our True Self and The Masks we Wear puts together well why it pays off to be our true authentic selves.

We've explored this too in a couple of other threads at least: Being Seen and Fitting In, in Larger Society.

This may give still more insight. Finally this issue also relates: Being Safe and Feeling Safe in an indirect way, as people tend to put on masks when they do not feel safe.

wow wonderful article! very true about putting on a mask to hide oneself. I have noticed that when I go out and socialize and I thought I could become a teacher and do teaching but I realized that wasn't me. I'm much more content working with furry animals. but anyways it got me thinking Smile
