Chat room get togethers

There has been an interest expressed in scheduling chat room gatherings once in a while. I think it would be fun and we can use the chatbox here. But, I need to know when people are likely to be available to attend, at least those who are interested.

Right now, due to some of those who are interested schedules, it looks like saturday or sunday might be best.

I would prefer not to have it before 9AM gmt-7 daylight savings time if at all possible, but any other time would probably work for me. I can schedule around a nice get together if need be.

How about the rest of you?

I think that's 7pm gmt-4 as you're 3 hours ahead of me.

If finding one time in common doesn't work out, we can always hold 2 chats at 2 different times too.

8pm gmt-4 or later is good for me.

just tell me when it is central dst, and i'll try ta be there. gmt.....my gosh, it's the special forces! zulu time, zulu time! lol!

That's the problem when you have members from all over the world; using local time zones becomes confusing.

mel, this is not helping me. gmt and 'how to calculate it' is not something i ever grasped. i can get declination on a compass, i can get vectors, i can get angles, but gmt-x i don't get (and kick in dst, i'm confused....i know what time it is from the sun-no matter where i am as long as it's not farther north than mid-canada, nor below the equator-don't need no watch). just tell me when the chat is your time, and i can figure that out. lol! i got my disabilities in thinking, too....weird, but what's not with me? heehee....

I'll do that. I can put the times in the various local time zones for N. America, but those on the other side will need the gmt numbers so they can figure out their time for the chat too.

gmt=greenwich mean (median?) time; those in time zones to the west of it get subtracted from it while those to the east get added to it.

military still uses it; they use the lil gps's more for time/coordination, though, i think....messes with my head... more mankind tinkering...

Anytime after 4:00 pm PDT, but only Sundays for me, Mel. Have to be at work at that time on Saturdays.

Sunday evening would work out well for me. I'm currently on the same time as you, Mel. AZ doesn't do daylight savings time.

Okay, it seems we have some consensus; how about 5PM pst, which is 5pm gmt-7, 6pm gmt-6, 7pm gmt -5 (Reb's time) and 8pm gmt-4 (est)?

Aiden and Strawberry, I have no idea what time it would be for you, but I'm aware it might be quite late (or early the next morning?).

Does that seem to work?

Evenings are mostly good for me too. Depends on what day. Let me know what day.

Okay, now I'll have to write that down some place so I remember. So, now, tell me how this works? We sign in to here and then go to the chat area below? Do I have to do anything special after that? Hey, I'm old so ya just gotta give me some breaks!

You just click on the chatbox title and you're in, after you log onto Dimension. There's a line box where you type your dialog into. If you're here now, we can go into there and you can practice and get to know how it works.

Okay, just to confirm, the chat get together is this sunday, Jul 13th at 5pm pst (gmt-7) .

That's 6pm gmt-6
7pm gmt-5
8pm gmt-4 (est).

I hope that translates to 8pm eastern on sunday.

It does. When it comes to forums and chatrooms, nothing about time is simple anymore.

Just blew a gasket trying to work it out. I'm GMT+10, so I think I'll miss out. Hadn't actually reliesed how big a time difference there was!

Maybe the one after that will be on a saturday, so you can join in on your sunday. This one was on sunday because of some other people's schedules.

I've kind of worked it out, for Adain and Strawberry to participate, we'd have to schedule one of the chats for a sat. at 3pm gmt-7, which would be 11pm for Strawberry and 8am sunday for Adain.

Unless Adain could get up earlier or Strawberry stay up later, there are not a lot of times in common. Ah, logistics....

Our scheduled chat is this sunday at 5PM pst (gmt-7); 8PM est (gmt-4).

To log in to the chat box, all you do is click on the word "Chatbox" on the index page at the top of the box. Once the chatbox is open, there will be on the lower right side a dialog box where you enter what you want to say.

That's it. When you're ready to leave, just click log out.

Well, our chatroom get together, in spite of server problems, was a rousing success. We had people coming by from about 4:15 pm gmt-7 to 11:30 pm! I think we had 11 people in all come.

I'll soon schedule another one for about 3 weeks from now. In the meantime, anyone can use the chatroom at anytime. Just remember to scroll down on the index page to see if anyone is there.
