Great Movies to watch
In honor of Melodi's great books topic, I thought I should start a great movies one.
I just re-watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984) last night. It's a lovely film, and unlike a lot of what I watch I expect most everyone would enjoy it. It's very nicely done anime (japanese animation), dubbed in english by some great actors, very "green" theme, very limited (animated) blood, mild violence, mild language.
Link to Nausicaa on IMDb
This is a fan-made trailer on YouTube. I couldn't find an official one. The movie should be fairly easy to find in the rental houses if anyone wants to watch it. Strawberry - If you haven't watched it, you should check it out.

Well, I went over to the trailer site, and found the whole movie (which I watched), as well as a sequel. It is in English, but still we get to watch it. Good Movie.

Ok - here's a perennial favorite.
The Princess Bride (1987) (IMDb Listing) (Movie Trailer)
Great cast, PG all the way, lots of great comedy - what's not to like. And it's got Andre the Giant in it, along with some great cameos like Billy Crystal, Peter Falk and Carol Cane. Nice, clean, swashbuckling fun.

One of my all-time favorite films of any genre, from 1956, Forbidden Planet:

and one of the few so-called 'chick flicks' that I really enjoyed (first saw it at the theater, not on DVD). Worth viewing for the music score alone! 1998's, Next Stop Wonderland:

As far as I'm concerned, either or both are worth either purchasing or renting on DVD!

Re: Great Movies to watch
It's about time we got some more movie recommendations going!
I just saw this one: Paris (2009) with Juliette Binoche (one of my fav actresses: The English Patient, Chocolat, etc.). It's compelling slices of life stories in modern day Paris (romance, humor, tragedy) and great scenery. Paris is an artistically and socially beautiful city I'v spent time in, so it always makes me feel good to see it in good movies.
Here's a sensitive and well stated review by Roger Ebert, my fav critic. Invariably I like the movies he likes:

I can easily recommend Hangover (a recent release), it's by far the funniest movie I've ever seen, and kept me laughing almost constantly through the whole film... there are so few dry spots, it's really great!
Apart from that, my absolute favourite is The Godfather parts I & II.

Wait, there's a book thread I could have been overtaking with my obnoxiousness? Where? Somebody tell me, pleeeeeaaaase! Where?
Oh, and as someone who loves Ben Stiller for no good reason, I'm throwing in Flirting With Disaster and the much newer, Tropic Thunder. Oh, and American Splendor- because how can you not love Giamatti's little bug-eyed butt? And the real interviews with Pekar, delish!

Re: Great Movies to watch
Recently saw the current movie Adam about a romance between a young man with Aspberger's and a young lady who tries to help him be more normal. Serious, but hilariously funny in parts, it's perhaps a fair portrayal and I found myself identifying with this character a lot as an HSP. Adam at one point shows some near violent tendencies that is probably not at all typical of Aspies. Mainly he has a heart of gold, he's just terribly rigid, socially clumsy and inexperienced.
Here's a good review:

I just ran across this funny and interesting blog by a lady with Aspberger's, so will include it here:

bumping an old thread...
I tried to make a short list of favourite movies...and I ended up with twenty-odd "must sees" :
Wings Of Desire
What Dreams May Come
Cry Freedom
The Lives Of Others
I Heart Huckabees
Joe vs. The Volcano
So I Married An Axe Murderer
Shaun Of the Dead
The Princess Bride
Sweet November
Stranger than Fiction
Wild At Heart
Seven Years In Tibet
Waking Ned Devine
They Live
Silverado
My Neighbour Totoro
Groundhog Day
Agata and the Storm
Alien
Dancer In the Dark
...I'm sure I could come up with another twenty...LOL . Anything with Kevin Kline or Simon Pegg, anything by Monty Python's Flying Circus, the first three Pink Panther movies, and anything by Wim Wenders or Hiyao Miyazaki should be on the list. I know that I have missed a bunch of my faves...I'll have to think on it and add a few more.
