VW Concept car...why I love diesels

Diesels are now cleaner than gasoline engines; polluting less, with no black smoke, and no nasty exhaust smell, due to the removal of the sulfur and other crap from the fuel (North America was the last place to clean up their fuel). The USA, and by extension Canada, are the only places on the entire planet where diesels are not as popular as gasoline engines. Diesel fuel contains more energy by volume, and diesels are always more efficient than gasoline engines (partly due to the extra energy, partly due to higher compression ratio, and partly due to the variable air-fuel ratio...allowing them to run much on much leaner ratios than with gasoline engines). In city driving, diesel economy goes up, not down like with a gasoline engine, and diesel engines last longer than gasoline engines as a rule. It's a win-win situation. My old diesel VW Jetta gets around 50mpg US (60+ Imperial) and has close to 400,000 miles on it...the current models are much better.
