but you got to remember I've taken a lot of literature classes.
I did this on facebook too and thought of a whole bunch of others that should be on the list.
"The Kitchen God's Wife" by Amy Tam

"Shogun" by James Clavell

"Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neal Hurston

"The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemmingway

"Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain

"Herzog" by Saul Bellow

"In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote

"The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath

"The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe

"Flatland" by Edwin Abbott Abbott

I would also add some works by Stephen King: like "The Green Mile" but I'd probably be stoned so forget it. LOL

Read 26 books out of this list. And some books where I just stopped either it was too hard to read or just lost interest. I read a ton of young adult books especially Deb Caletti, Sarah Dessen, Jenny Han and lots more.

I'm close, I've read 40 of them. And I've read the whole Anne of Green Gables series, not just the first one along with thousands of others. I had a very isolated childhood and spend alot of time sitting on the floor in between the stacks at the local public library. Reading was my escape. Others I've read that should probably be on the list:

"All Quiet on the Western Front" Erich Maria Remarque

"Angela's Ashes" Frank McCourt

"Tom Sawyer" Mark Twain -- Totally agree with Mo on this one

"Don Quixote" Miquel De Cervantes

"Gulliver's Travels" Jonathan Swift

"Little Women" Louisa May Alcott

Forgive me for hijacking this for one moment, but I had to share. This is my favorite adaptation of Anne of Green Gables and if you haven't ever seen it, you absolutely must! It's from 1985, Megan Follows will always be Anne Shirley for me and the Great Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla was absolutely fabulous. It is one of those perfect movies for an HSP. I believe it actually won an Emmy.

Some clips to share.

Someone posted it on youtube! Yay. The first 10 minute clip. The rest is there too if you want to watch.

Had to add this. I watched part 2 and the thought popped into my head "I wonder if this was how Alethia was as a child?" Very Happy That was a compliment, btw.

Oh my gosh Reamsie, I love you!!! bounce haha Did I mention I was a huge Anne of Green Gables fan? I read all the books and I had watched this series probably at least a hundred times, had it on video, lol!! I used to break it out and watch it every Christmas. I had it memorized! I was totally in love with Gilbert. And Mathew was such a sweetheart! The characters are just amazing. I recently saw a more recent adaptation and it was nowhere near as good plus they totally changed the story! (They had Anne finding her father and he was really alive or some such thing) Oh I'm so happy to see these, god it brings back my childhood! She was my childhood heroine, I'm still dying to go to Prince Edward Island and see the house. Thank you for posting this!!!! Smile Very Happy I didn't think anyone would know about this outside of Canada!
