Post by Nucky Sun Apr 27, 2008 12:58 am

At this point, I am just going to have one forum open so that we can all discuss which direction this forum should take. From what I've heard so far, it seems like most people like the idea of it being fun and loose like Vivid Life was, only keeping the support forums that the VL admins wanted to get rid of (and I promise this one won't ever get shut down by me or any of the other admins! Shocked )

So here we can discuss what sub-forums we should have, what should be private and what should be open, precisely what direction the forum should take, etc.

This forum host's rules aren't very strict, the only things that aren't allowed are pornography and coordinating illegal activities, so we're open on what we can post here.

Hi Nucky,

Well, here we go. I hope that people get enthusiastic about this and post a lot of good ideas. Anyone who wants to be a moderator or an admin. will be considered; the more people participating, the better. Let's build the perfect site for us. Cool

Why are there so many of these forums springing up with all of the same members on them? Isn't one of these forums enough for everyone? I don't get it. Maybe someone could explain.

We consider ourselves an HSP family. We're trying to find something that works for everyone, in the interests of keeping the family together. All of the HSP forums so far have some members who don't feel completely comfortable on them for one reason or another. We're trying to make a place where everyone's comfortable, and where everyone's needs are respected.

We're really going to plan this forum carefully, this time we're going to focus on having something that will last, and that won't end up alienating anyone.

This hsp forum isn't going to be like you last one is it Nucky? You know, The Moovement, where you guys were all gross and cutting down and making fun of the handicapped? That was just a terrible thing that you did on that board.

No way, it's not going to be anything like that. That wasn't an HSP forum at all. That forum was tailored to the tastes of a select few of my friends who share my off-color sense of humor. This is going to be much more user-friendly.

So not everyone from Blue's board is invited to come here? Who will be members here? So what kind of board are you going to have here anyhow? You said Hsp. How do you define hsp nucky?

Of course they are. Why wouldn't they be? :?:

Zeus wrote: Who will be members here?
Anyone who wants to be.

Zeus wrote: So what kind of board are you going to have here anyhow?
We're far from agreeing upon a clear-cut organization scheme for this forum, we have a long way to go on that. I'm not a dictator here, I'm part of a group of several people who will be deciding on this. This forum wasn't even originally my idea, it was Melodicolor, INFP, and Justin Passing who came up with the idea of establishing a permanent forum that doesn't alienate anyone. I just helped get the ball rolling.

Zeus wrote:You said Hsp. How do you define hsp nucky?

That's not an easy question, but in a nutshell, HSPs are people who have heightened emotional and/or physical sensations as a result of having a nervous system that's exceptionally responsive to environmental stimuli. And yes, I am one, even though some people think I'm an a$$ because of my sense of humor. Wink HSPs aren't necessarily "nice."

I have to admit Zeus, that you have me confused at this point. I saw your rant too; even after I made clear we were not raiding anyone's forum. I was waiting for Blue Topaz's go ahead to invite the members of her forum to join, as I did not want to step on any toes. But by the time she said sure go ahead, you and Datamaiden made it impossible for me to do so. No

The very thing I was trying to prevent, hostile feelings are now making things uncomfortable. You saw in my post in your thread that I did invite everyone to come over. But after those tirades, I doubt anyone will.

Well, if everyone thinks we're evil for doing this, we could start out with the four or five of us who think this is a good idea and take it from there. To get more members, we could spread the word around to other cool people we know.

this is just my opinion....let those who want to get upset do so. let those who don't want to, not. let everybody be 'who they are', and don't say nothin'. no 'challenges', no 'wanna come over', no nothin....i absolutely do not want my prediction of all us hsp's splintering into factions to come true. in order to avoid that, we are all going to have to step carefully, and beware of what we say and how....things have gotten way too delicate for my tastes...it's like there's an outbreak of 'we aint gonna agree on nothin' (oooppsss. freudian slip? lol! maybe 'aint gonna agree about anything?).

fighting...damn, i love it....who's next? 3 minutes in the ring ya get $100 bucks! jeez...what a goat rope all the arguing is.....i'm going to sound like those ladies i make fun of, but things at this juncture need to be handled with the utmost delicacy....like eating garlic buttered lobster in a white lace dress... (rotflmao) like carrying a pot of boiling grease out of the kitchen....like picking a splinter out of your buttocks with a mirror and no one to help...lol! i'll stop, i'm going to get outrageous in a minute....

i am on three boards; i don't have any major problems with anyone on any of them. i don't want to have any bs-i don't like bs. do i completely agree with everyone? no. am i going to get into a frothing fuss about anything i disagree on? no....y'all carefully consider where things are is my advice....those of us who are here, and communicating, let's stick to design and smart aleck remarks about each other-y'all feel free to gossip or whatever on me all you want to; just be sure you can take it if you dish it out.Smile....i will guarantee any of us....if we mention someone else we disagree with in almost any fashion, no matter how innocent we think it is, it will blow up like a firecracker in a turd all over us...anyone ever do that on halloween? put a bag with some dog doo in it on a porch, ring the doorbell, light the firecracker fuze and run like hell.....nasty little brats! someone oughtta hook 'em through the lips and go trolling for sharks! lol!

board bouncing...forum flopping....hsp hissing....net nogging....what do we call the last few months? there's got to be a name that fits.....

There are several people who have been unhappy with me lately. Obviously it doesn't make me feel great, but I let them say what they have to say, and I just rationally discuss any issues they bring up. But I've already said everything that needs to be said to these poeple, so I'm not going to drag it on any further.

Zeus has already ranted about how evil I am on this forum and on Blue's forum, who knows where he's ranting about me now? Not going to sweat about it though, I'll just deal with any fallout that occurs because of it as it comes up. I'm not even mad about it, I think it's hilarious actually.

This is a good idea, but I have to admit the HSP community seems to be fracturing off into factions (as Reb has said). I know this is a step to try and resolve that.
The first thing I think that needs to be considered is how to deal with confrontational posts, and process of resolution between the parties involved. We need to set clear guide lines which don't result in an enviroment of stifled comunication, but are very clear cut.
I agree that VL looked like it was a pretty good forum...it seemed to have found a good balance, before it was shut down.
Personally I think all the HSP who keep trying and joining new forums are of similar minds at least in terms of how a forum should be run.
Personally I rather enjoy the more riske posts, dirty jokes, and the slightly darker humour. I might not post them myself...but I like reading them.
I also feel a bit more comfortable when people are a little bit more at ease discussing sexuality (what can I say, I'm a dirty sex pervert, LOL!), and different types of spirituality ect. A ripper of a political disscussion is good.
Just a thought, about potential moderators, I think a good deal of thought needs to go into who is a moderator. May I suggest that we try a specturm of age groups, and differing personalities (I'm not using the correct word here, but for lack of a better word...), I think the problem so far since Aimoo crapped out, is that the moderators on every board have been similar of opinion, which is why I think we are getting a lot of factionalism. I hope what I'm trying to say, come across.
Basically what I'm taking a long time in saying (and I know every ones kinda saying the samething) is we really need to work at putting people at ease.

Post by reb Mon Apr 28, 2008 9:59 am

here's my first valid thought....i'm half awake, so maybe it's only half valid:

if any post appears to be a personal attack on anyone-i mean anyone-else on this board or any other, it is deleted if posted, or deleted if not posted. a warning then goes to the poster. if you accumulate 5 warnings; you get 'banned' for a week. if you accumulate 10 warnings, you get banned for a month; 15 warnings, permanently banned.

i am disgusted with people mentioning each other's names/screen names/things they have said on other boards, implying someone is this or that...i have had too much of it, and it is anathema to me...

second maybe valid thought: if there is a to be a debate on any issue, then that debate should remain in the idea/theoretical area....iow, don't say 'you are stupid', say 'you're idea appears to not be fully thought through'....

i have no idea how any one moderator can make these decisions; i would suggest a voting process be set up, and votes taken of all registered members who will vote. for example, Waterdragon sez 'hey, Reb, you're a fucking ninny!' (lol! picking on you WD, cause i know you'd never say something like that except in jest, and likely not even then); if i object to the statement, i call for a vote. 'does this statement violate the 'no personal attacks' rule?'; people are given a week to vote. majority voting; if 10 say yes, and 9 say no, a warning is issued. democracy in action; majority rule (yes, i know, there isa tyranny of the majority sometimes....so, if you disagree with majority rule, then what's YOUR proposal?)

best i got....

oh, and another thing....there should be a rule that if you bring an issue from another board here, and criticize some person from another board, a vote is taken on should you get a warning. who's gonna keep track of the warnings? there should be a separate thread called 'warnings'; it names the date, quotes the post 'warned' and the screen name warned. should be protected against erasure, so the warnings can be counted in case of disagreement...

shutting up.

your 'demerits' get cancelled once a year; iow, ou start over from zero. everybody i know has at least a couple bad days when they say something they shouldn't have...me included (lol! i guess everyone knows that huh?).

this gives a person some chances to know 'hey, the rest of us think that was out of line', and to change their behaviour....if they don't want to, and become a jerk repeatedly, they get banned forever....it sounds fair to me...whadda y'all think?

Well, I went to the host's forum and looked at some of the faq's. They have a higher security standard than many hosts. So our computers need to accept cookies in order to log on. I also found out that our forum is automatically backed up by the host, so it can be restored if anything happens. That's good to know.

It's "free forum support" for those who have accepted admin status. Go on over and have a look around. There is a large amount of information there; everything we need and a lot of bells and whistles we can incorporate into our final forum when we're ready to. So we have the support we need to figure all of this out.
