The Prisoner

I want to put in plug for this new show that begins this Sunday 8 pm PST/EST 7 pm CST on AMC cable. It's a remake and new interpretation of the popular series that ran in the late '60s and reran in the 70s on PBS. It spurred lots of discussion about what it all meant.

I love this show (the sixties version) and I'm looking forward to seeing the new one.
It's been a while since I watched the old show. It reran a couple of years ago on BBC america. When I watched it the first time I was a little kid and was absolutely terrified by the big round balloon (it has a name which escapes me now) that was basically the village guard dog.

Wasn't the catch phrase of the show "I am not a number, I am a man" or something to that effect? That sort of says it all. There were so many little nuances that made the show fascinating. The dude was a spy or something that decided to retire and for some reason that made him a threat. He had to be "put away" in the village. What's up with that?

And he had this confrontational relationship with "number 2"

Who was number one?
Why was he number six?


Geez, it reminds me of LOST with all the unanswered questions.

What a great show.

Ah yes! The Prisoner! Great show! It was often very surrealistic and very deep! I dug it! I will be watching it!

Looks interesting

Gosh, it has been years since I watched the Prisoner, but I have seen it maybe 4 or 5 times. Each time I got more out of it; it spoke so eloquently of the times it was made in too.

I hope the new Prisoner does it justice.

No TV. Gave it up years ago and feel healthier for it.

Ya know Nan I was the same way until I sank into this dang depression the last few years.

My youngest child was not permitted to watch TV until he was almost school age. He was & is my best behaved, not being exposed to all of that garbage at such a young age really does make a difference in behavior. I read an article before he was born that it was thought Television played a part in the surge of ADHD cases.

To me, there are number of parallels between The Prisoner, both the old and the new versions, and Dollhouse.

Otoh, what if "The Village" really exists, but is something we actually know as "The Internet" instead of "The Village"?

Well, the wrap up of the new version was similar to what I thought it would be...

Honestly, I loved the series but less as it went along and I could see the direction it was going. I didn't like the ending.

Yes...very true! 'The Matrix' also. The idea of a dimensional or separate reality has similarity in a lot these days because of the internet...I feel.
And...yes most sites can be seen and drawn mindwise as villages...with houses and streets...lakes...mountains. It is the 'characters'...I think... that gives this 'birth' to internet places.
I view 'dimension' as a somewhat sanctuary at times...a place of refuge from chaos that tends to be felt in some uncertain places.
So...ya'll are likened to a church to me! Imagine that!
