Need help with planning a vacation for my cousin

Not the cousin who has been my roommate for five-six years now, but his sister. We've now moved in with her at the large house she rents.

Anyway, her birthday is in late December, and she wants to go to Tuscany (or Florence), Italy for a vacation. I guess her mother and stepfather will probably foot the airfare as long as she pays for her food/lodging, though I'm not sure about her airfare being provided.

Someone told her about vacations where you can work on a farm there in order to pay for your food and lodging. I've not been able to find much so far, but have not looked at a lot of sites yet.

Just wondered if anyone here has either heard of or done this in the past, and what are the positives/negatives with regard to such a vacation? Thanks, everyone!

However I believe accomodation can be basic and you are expected to contribute hard labour while you stay. I believe it's all over the world.
