Yes, focusing on others does free us from our own emotional restrictions often, so we are free to think more creatively.

I find this process going on in many I observe. Another thing to consider is often discussing things with other creative people in an open manner can inspire fresh perspectives that allows us to go further than we could on our own, and I find this process to be very useful and just downright fun.
