They've had simular machines in the US for some time, but the time to print and bind a book was slower and the cost to purchase such a book was not really competetive with preprinted books on sale or used. So it never took off here.
Maybe the cost is coming down so the demand will go up.

I agree a mom and pop bookseller is not going to be able to afford the $175,000.00 price tag for this contraption. But it seems like a wonderful invention.
