Christian the Lion!!! :)))))
In case any of you haven't seen it yet - I just stumbled across this video (at a Slovenian blog!!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDZaWgf_bk0 - prepare Kleenex!!
It's awesome!!
Two young Australians living in hip London bought Christian the lion in 1969 for 250 pounds /=apparently 600$ then/ at Harrods!! - cause they couldn't bear the sight of the poor cub in a small cage!! - & then set him free to go to Africa, where he was rehabilitated by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Adamson
After a year, he was the head of a small pride (that means he had 2 wives, Mona & Lisa!) - but still recognized his friends & greeted them with love & an awesome hug, when they came to visit! - & introduced them to his wife/z! - Although the guys were told he probably wouldn't recognize them!!)
There's a ton of vids about Christian & its 'owners' on YouTube, apparently...
Including a very fun & very awesome Australian interview (part 1 & 2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_dWzF-vSXQ part1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfkAnEGCHCc part2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU6AjvibF50 The story is described in more detail here... if you click on 'More info' under the 'Subscribe' button! (Be warned, not all of it is happy - some of it is quite sad...)
Christian the Lion owners - John Rendall Anthony 'Ace' Bourke 35 years later! at the Today Show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRsDrqTBq6Y
/Some information under 'More info' too...)
At the end she asks, 'How long do lions live?' Could he still be alive today?
Well, http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/GreatCats/lionfacts.cfm says: 'Lions live 25 years in zoos, 15 in the wild...'
But, who knows?
Beginning & end of the FULL original video about Christian the Lion who Thought He Was People /awesome to watch!!/
Part 1 - FULL version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzxms9-qQZ4
Part 10 - FULL version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBWR56ashRY
& this is the foundation that is his legacy http://www.bornfree.org.uk/

So nobody watched Christian the Lion yet?
I was curious to see what you think about this
I almost couldn't believe it was true at first.. & I understand some other people questioned it too... Though they give good info in the interviews, so maybe it is all true? hmm...
I loved the part of a vicar giving them space to exercises the lion on church grounds lol
Apparently they wanted a place where no kids or other people would 'distract' or 'tempt' the lion... Still, it's a bit funny, isn't it?
Anyway, I though it was a great show!

Sorry, SB, yes, I did watch it and found it fascinating. I think I had read or seen something on this before. Also, there had been a video about a woman who had raised a lion cub and then when it got too big, gave it to the zoo. She walked right up to the cage and the lion embraced her, just like Christian did with his buddies. That does bring tears to my eyes. Animals can recognize the goodness in people they have been close with. Pretty awesome stuff.

Thanks for commenting, Nan!!
I guess things come to Slovenia a bit belated, yeah! Haven't seen it on TV here yet, but then again I don't watch that much TV...
It's interesting how a 'YouTube sensation' can make 'real news'...
Aww... glad to hear about the woman too... Poor lion in the zoo.. Though a site says they live longer there.. Makes you wonder what is better...
It is awesome to see a lion 'hug' a human, yeah... Kinda upturns your expectations completely...

I've seen those videos Strawberry. Very touching. But I tend to not watch them because I get jealous. I've always wanted a really BIG cat to cuddle with, and watching someone else do it is too much to bear!
