critters that hide under rocks
was moving some rocks today to try to stop some erosion...picked up a cinder block i figgered i'd use, too. underneath it, there was a momma scorpion, with about 20-25 babies on her back. i started to go get the camera, as i'd never seen one like this myself, and then i thought 'if i do, this sob will move, and i'll have 25 little sobs running around near my house'...so i squshed her...too bad, so sad....on top of it, i've not been able to use my photobucket account....it don't want to respond to my computer (or vice versa)...soemthing's changed over there, and i ain figgered it out yet...so not taking no chances on scorpions getting more population...too many people is worse, but ya can't sqush 'em all....lol!
thought it was pretty interesting...the babies were no bigger than bb's....and all clustered together like little brown jewels on her back...she was a pretty good sized 'un...maybe 2" from tip of pinchers to end of tail or a lil more...
i hate it when they get in the house and climb my 'in sloping' walls....bleh!

So you got to feeling all warm and fuzzy and maternal, then you realised what you were getting that way about and came to your senses.

now, if it'd been momma rattlesnake, i woulda just put the cinder block back and left her alone....lol! i'd feed a rattlesnake to keep it around....and then go get my big mouth neighbor 'hey, bud, come see my new pet!' lol!

Well, you could have just relocated the scorpion family over to that neighbor's property....

I do believe that the larger scorpions aren't that poisonous. It's the smaller ones that are more deadly. Not having seen yours, it's hard to say. But, still, it's better to be safe than sorry. Sometimes we just gotta do what we have to do.

Nan, i once looked up scorpions on the net...trying to figure out how to make them 'not like my house'. i found that there are two kinds of scorpions...ones with 'triangular' bodies, and ones with 'pentangular' bodies....several subspecies, i guess..anyway, the triangular ones will kill ya...they are the larger desert scorpions, in general...the ones i have are pentangular...they have a kinda square front body, that angles down to the tail area...they hurt like liquid fire, but i aint heard of no one dying from them...
give them a blackle...it's fascinating some of the stuff i found...
by the way, welcome to 'nothing'...good to see ya
