I would love to hear from HSP:s working as Christian ministors or pastors. How is everyday life? How do you combine high sensitivity with listening to big problems without being all worn out? How do you cope with stressful work days with too many tasks? How did you know that God was calling you to become a priest?

As you might have guessed I'm considering this career option (in lack of better wording, it really feels like more than just a career). I'm just not sure I'm strong or calm enough, or able to meet people's grief and sorrow. I'm not a calm, dependable strong man who can "lead his sheep to safety". I'm just a young woman (26 yo). I feel a lot, I'm overly empathic, I'm often worried, my sadness and anger are often very strong feelings. I also love people a lot. I see their needs. I'm often very excited and very happy and very thankful. I have had very strong and vivid experiences of God. I often feel Her talking to me. I would love to work for Her. Maybe She is calling me.  But how do I know if that is the case?

Ps. I'm not in the mood to justify my faith today, so please no attacks on my basic belief. I'm tired and extra-sensitive due to hormones. So please refrain from that today and I'll gladly discuss it another day.

I am not a minister but work as a healer, which involves using my empathic, compassionate listening abilities. I have always helped others even as I have journeyed, it seems a natural process of healing myself and guiding/supporting others in some way over many years probably starting around your age. It wasn't really until around a few years ago that I started to take up a more serious approach to this work, by setting up my own home base business. It seemed a natural progression and calling for me in many ways. Often those that come to me I can help. Its not the kind of work I can do a lot in one day. I find the nature of this work as both hsp and an empath, requires me to keep it all in balance of taking care of myself and other things in my life as well. It seems the nature of what I can do and offer others requires more than just a half hour appointment. Sometimes the session may take a few hours.

In the realization that this might be a calling you wish to pursue, you might learn through the process itself much like I did to open and be more clear and balanced to support others in your own time and awareness built through this path.

When we are sharing in spiritual communication the words shared are support for us to listen to for guidance and direction if needed. I try not to interpret too much *the who* is speaking but more listen and trust that in the shared communication to guide me or help me in some way.

I don't have any need to justify your beliefs. The most important aspect of this life is to follow your heart for you. Listen to you and do what you want to do. Its your path and life, so if it feels right go with it. If your unsure I would simply allow myself more time and process to build enough clarity to know for myself what I would like to do in this.

Hi, I don't belong to a religious institution but I consider myself deeply spiritual and I'm guess I worship in my own way.
I was raised in church so I have some experience with Christianity, my father was a deacon.

I do this pretty much all day on a regular basis through my job and just living it.

I think big problems only wear you out when you haven't faced them in you yet, or you are attached to one view of the world, and big problems make you rethink it when you don't want to. Facing these in you can give you a new understanding of the people you wish to help and share this space in their lives with.

For stressful work days, I kind of rant about how much somebody drives me nuts to myself and laugh about it, but I still love people... Even when they do super creepy and yucky things and try to blame them on me or the organization I work for, being clear and open is important.
I use the motto only get yourself into things that you actually can accept, are actually interested in and want to understand without blaming other people before you take that jump. Listen rather than talk.
Plus, life is complicated, you never get to get off spiritual learning train even when you take on twice as many hours as you wanted because job hours are irrelevant to that I imagine... Sometimes you need to refresh yourself to handle the stressful situation, or change up routines that don't work for you.

I had a number of spiritual experiences that kind of spelled out to me what I was called to do. I'm of the belief that you can be a priest whether or not you're in an institution setting  just by existing as a spiritual and mortal being in touch with themselves. People can keep communication with the divine and reverence for the world without an office or title.

Spirit calls me to do things and gives me the option, so I do them when I opt to.

Maybe a good way to tell if you like this career path would be to live it for a while without going to officialism?

For me I kind of like it this way, because then I'm not gridlocked into one interpretation of the divine and one way of expressing spirituality. I like adventuring and learning other interpretations... like some kind of weird HSP knight.

It sounds like you've encountered some criticism around this from others, but Alethia is right.

I am not religious but I am spiritual and hold most unconventional views.  I have had to deal with some interesting reactions from others from time to time.  Follow your heart.

Since you are not sure yet if this is right for you, I suggest finding a church that fits you well and talking to the preachers for advice or guidance on how you can be trained;  that you feel a calling.  If at any time it feels like it may not be a good fit, let it go and keep searching until you do find the right place for you.  Over time too, what once is a good fit may change or expand as you grow.
